Senior Kaylor Battiest

GUYMON-Kaylor Battiest is a senior at Oklahoma Panhandle State University a part of the softball team. She comes from Tulsa, Oklahoma and has been playing softball since she was 11 years old. Battiest says softball has “instilled many life characteristics such as leadership, competitiveness, motivation, determination, and passion.” Through softball, she has also acquired “so many friends, coaches, and parents that I now consider family, who have all each played an important role in my life today.”

Through the recent COVID-19 pandemic, Battiest said it impacted her season, “...it ended my career almost two months early. It was stripped away from me and I could do nothing about it. My team was working through adversity and never got the chance to overcome it. Battiest speaks about how she is processing the loss of her season due to the pandemic, “It is a sore subject for any athlete. Personally, I thought I could accept that my softball career is now over, but it breaks my heart every day knowing I should be at practice, next to my teammates, or traveling to other universities in our conference to compete. I didn’t take it seriously when people said, ‘Play every game like it’s your last,’ but now that it’s gone, I want younger athletes to realize that you never really know when it will be taken away from you.”
