Hooker wins, Guymon falls in Blue & Red Classic

The 25th edition of the Blue & Red Classic tipped off Thursday, with Texas County teams going 2-2 on the opening night of the tournament. The Hooker Bulldogs and Lady Dogs each grabbed wins over Lakin, Kan. The boys 64-50 and the Lady Dogs 66-44. The Guymon Tigers and Lady Tigers both fell in their openers against Hugoton, the Lady Tigers 82-36 and the Tigers 61-43.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-11 led 29-18 at the half.

Tate Cathcart led Hooker with 18 points, Cory Fischer added 17 and Dawson Metcalf 16. Tanner McBee added 6, Hutton Parsons 3, Tyrce Mikles and Isahi Vargas 2 apiece.

The Lady Bulldogs led just 16-12 after the first quarter, but went on a 24-4 surge in the second to lead 40-16 at the half. Naomi Rodriguez paced the Lady Dogs with 21 points including three 3-pointers. Taelor Parker scored 17, Aliyah Piñon 13, Jacquie Fernandez 5, Tomi Hise 4, Kyra Hussey 4 and Jordan Pritchard 2.

The Lady Tigers ran into a very talented Hugoton Lady Eagles squad in their 82-36 setback. Hugoton led 23-7 after the first period and 52-21 at the half.

Meagan Bellar led Guymon with 16, Olivia Armstrong 11, Alexis Bishop 4, Jo Quintero 2, Jazmin Nash 2 and Arrington Johnson 1. Former Lady Tiger Sydney Hein scored 8 for Hugoton.

The Tiger men trailed just 22-20 after the first quarter but the Eagles eased ahead 34-25 at the half and Guymon scored just 18 in the second half.

Hugo Hinojos led with 13 points, Jacob Watson added 12, Riley Kokaly 9, Jovan Ochoa 5 and Grayson Wallace 4.
