Officers Tase Suspect
Friday, 11 July 2008

Below: Guymon Police Sgt. Monty Osborne, left, and officer Cisco Lopez detain Sandra Quiñones, 33, of Guymon, on Thursday afternoon in the 100 block of North Academy. Officers used the department's new tasers to subdue the suspect, according to radio traffic at the time of the incident. Quiñones was taken to the police department where she was charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing an officer and public intoxication after she was involved in a fight. The other party in the altercation, a 28-year old Hispanic female, was taken to Memorial Hospital of Texas County with minor injuries. This was the second time officers have deployed the tasers in the line of duty since since the department issued them earlier this year. Sgt. Michael Arndt was the first to use the taser in June when a subject became combative in a hotel and used a fire extinguisher as a weapon. In both incidents, the officers and suspect were unharmed.

"That's the biggest benefit to that taser," said Guymon Police Chief Eddie Adamson. "The more we actually use it, the more word spreads exponentially amongst the public. We don't want to use it, but when we do, we want everyone to know it."
