A hot summer day, a scenic lake and classic cars ... all are the ingredients for a fun-filled day Saturday at the Flatlanders Car Club's Car Show.
The annual event will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday on the east side of Sunset Lake. The event actually kicks off Friday with the Phil Kittle Annual Cookout at the Pickle Creek building at 7 p.m. Friday. After the cookout Friday, there will be a hamburger feed that is free to car show entrants and a cruise that will lead participants to Sonic for ice cream. "We invite the public to come out to Sonic to see a preview of the car show," said Roy Taylor. "It will give it am old-time drive-in car hop feel." The entry fee for the car show is $25 and each entrant will receive a free T-shirt and a dash plaque. The show is free to the public. Giveaways include a new transmission, flow master mufflers donated by Muffler Haus, a pressure washer donated by Baber Supply of Texhoma, a GPS tracking system, door prizes and a 50/50 pot. An 18-foot Challenger car trailer will also be given away. Cost of the trailer giveaway is $20 per ticket. But the car show isn't the only event going on Saturday. A dunking booth and concession stand will be located at the park, and there will also be a poker "Walk" and a burn out contest. "It will be a poker walk around the lake," Taylor said. "It's mostly been driving the last few years. But we just wanted a walk to get a feel for the lake." The burnout contest will take place on Third Street next to Bob's Bar. The car show had previously been held on Main Street, "But it seemed to be too hot out on the pavement, so we moved it to Sunset Lake to cool it down a little," Taylor said. The car show had 80 participants last year, and Taylor said he expects to have more this year to enhance everything else going on. "At various times during the day we'll have different things," Taylor said. "We'll have a dunking booth and the PSU cheerleaders will get dunked. We'll have beautiful cars. It should be a good time." And all of this will go toward a good cause. The car show gave $11,000 back into the Panhandle community last year. "All the money raised is put back into the community for people in medical need or for kids at Christmas," Taylor said. It's all for a good cause." |
