Celebrate the OPSU Rodeo Dynasty |

GOODWELL — Help celebrate Oklahoma Panhandle State’s rodeo team on Thursday, May 8 from 4-6 p.m. in the Ballroom located in the Student Union. Team members will be on hand to discuss the season and the upcoming college finals rodeo. Hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the fixings plus peach cobbler and ice cream will be served. Come meet the team and admire the amazing number of saddles, buckles, and plaques they have won over the year while representing OPSU.
A dynasty may be defined as a series of rulers from the same family or group. The OPSU rodeo team qualifies on both counts. Even before the mid 1980s when Robert and Danny Etbauer, current head coach Craig Latham and his late brother Deke dominated college rodeo, the OPSU Men’s Rodeo Team has excelled in the arena. Add Robert’s son Trell to the winner’s circle, who is the reigning All-Around Cowboy, tie-down calf roper and steer wrestling champion in the Central Plains Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association standings.
This year’s men’s team posted a rare perfect season in the Central Plains Region, placing first at each of the ten rodeos during the 2007-2008 year. It earned them not only first in the region, it also secured them a spot at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) that will be held June 15-21 in Casper, Wyo.
In addition to Etbauer, other regional winners include first place and second saddle bronc winners Seth Schafer and Tyrel Larson, respectively. Karlon Knudson won the title in the bareback riding. The women’s team also had a successful year, placing second in the region overall, also qualifying for CNFR this summer. Jordan Muncy is first in the region in goat tying and also won second place in the regional All-Around Cowgirl competition. Please join us to celebrate this historic occasion. |
