Special Olympians are ready for state after competing in the regional track meet in Turpin, Okla.. Participants came from Guymon, Turpin, Okla., Beaver, Okla., Texhoma, Okla., and Boise City, Okla. The olympians were divided by age groups and ran in separate heats. The results from the track meet are as follows: In the girls 25M Walk: in the first heat Karen Leap of Beaver, Sophia Springs of Boise City and Stacey Stephens placed first; Rhonda Worm of Boise City and Carrie Dees placed second and in third was Violet Beaty of Guymon and in heat two first place was Janell Riggs of Beaver. In the girls 100M Walk, first place winner was Jessica Jones of Boise City. In the girls 50M Dash, in the first heat first place winners: Amber Gore of Texhoma, Amanda Vernon of Guymon and Paula Headrick of Turpin; in the second place was Nicole Winter of Turpin and Ruth Lang of Guymon. Girls 50M Dash winners of the first heat are: Amber Gore of Texhoma, Amanda Vernon of Guymon and Paula Headrick of Turpin; second place was Nicole Winter of Turpin and Ruth Lang of Guymon. In the girls 100M Dash Adriana Velasco of Guymon and Linda Eggers of Guymon take first place. Standing long jump Brenda Chavez takes first place. In the girls shot put Nicole Winter and Linda Eggers both place first. First place winner In the first heat of the softball throw are: Amber Gore of Texhoma, Adriana Velasco of Guymon, Rhonda Worm of Boise City, Sophia Springs, Janell Riggs and Paula Headrick; second place was Layna Eldridge of Guymon, and Brenda Chavez of Guymon, and Jessica Jones of Boisie City took third place. In the second heat of the girls softball throw Karen Leap of Beaver, Sophia Springs of Boise City and Paula Headrick of Turpin all took first place. In the girls wheelchair race was Layna Eldridge with a first place win. In the 25M Walk boys results for the first heat: Chris Jenkins of Guymon, Mike Griffing of Guymon and Luis Sandoval all placed first, second place was Roger Riggs of Beaver and in Stan Sturdivan in third place; in the second heat was Luis Sandoval of Boise City in first and Oran Wright in second place. In the boys 50M Dash Jerry Spring of Boise City and Chris Swister placed first. In the 100M Dash Dennis Anderson placed second and Cody Ward place third. Running long jump results for heat one are: William Chick of Guymon and Kelly Sawyer of Guymon in first place; second heat was Brandy Burch of Guymon with first place. Boys shot put results are: Chris Jenkins of Guymon and Brandy Burch of Guymon took first place and Chris Jenkins of Guymon and Prakash Bhatka in second place. In the boys softball throw, heat one: Jerry Springs of Boise City, Cody Stegan of Guymon and Oran Wright of Boise City placed first; in second place was William Chick of Guymon. In heat two, Luis Sandoval placed first, Prakash Bhatka of Guymon in second and in third place was Cody Ward; in the third heat, Brandy Burch of Guymon won first place, Mike Griffing of Guymon place second and in third place was Chris Swister of Guymon. Dennis Anderson of Guymon, Rhonda Worm of Boise City, Sophia Springs of Boise City and Luis Sandoval of Boise City were on the winning team for the relays and Linda Eggers of Guymon, Carrie Dees of Guymon, Kelly Sawyer of Guymon and Chris Swister of Guymon were on the second place winning relay. The Special Olympics team will be heading out on May 6 and will compete on May 7-9. They will gather at Wal-Mart on May 6 at 9:45 for those who want to wish them farewell and good luck.
