Four additional charges have been filed against a Texhoma man already facing charges in connection with the illegal horse racing track raided back in July.

James Clark, 65, is now being charged with 18 counts, according to documents obtained from the Texas County Courthouse. Those charges include holding race meetings where non-pari-mutual betting is being conducted without a license and unlawful receipt of engagement in transaction and acquisition of illegal proceeds. Other charges include conspiracy to commit charging an admission fee to horse race without a license and maintaining anything of value for an unlawful purpose.  

The charges stem from an incident where an illegal racetrack was raided on July 5, 2009. The investigation was conducted by the District Attorney's Task Force. Informants entered the racetrack, located three miles north of Guymon, on April 26 and May 10. They purchased food and beer as well as placed bets with money that was marked. Sources say between 150 to 300 people attended the races that operated on alternating Sundays.

As a result of the raid, vehicles, horse trailers, electronic equipment, cash and 19 horses were seized. The amount of money the illegal operation brought in remains under investigation, but according to the affidavit for probable cause, admission to the track was $15-20.

Clark's preliminary hearing was Dec. 17.
