It's Christmas time.. What Trav has to say about it...

Is it really just days until Christmas? It's hard to believe, but yes, Christmas is merely four days away! These last few days, I've been walking around without a jacket. Everyone always asks me why I'm not wearing one. Well, compared to those sub-zero temperatures we had earlier this month, this is the Bahamas! I hate wearing jackets because they are usually so bulky and once you get inside you have to take it off anyway, so I say... suffer in the cold for a few seconds and go without. This is of course, not what my mother and grandmother have taught me to do. I can just hear them going on and on (and on) about how I'm going to get sick... so for their sake (and mine)... everyone wear a jacket, even if you don't look good in it! Haha. I mention me not wearing a jacket because with these above normal temperatures, it's difficult to fathom that it is nearly Christmas! At 9:47 a.m. this morning, the winter solstice happened, so now it is officially winter! That's hard to believe with today's high of 60, huh? I bet it reminds some of you of the first days of Spring this year when we had that crazy blizzard! I'm sad I missed that (I was in New York!) Christmas really is a joyous time... everyone seems to be in a jolly mood and the spirit really is in the air. I love the scents, time with family, food, and of course, the true meaning of Christmas. We all know that true meaning, but many times we become blinded by what society has made it out to be. Gifts are great and all, but is that really what it's about? It shouldn't matter whether I'm going to be getting an iPod or a bag of peanuts for Christmas, because that's not the reason for Christmas! I know of a five-year-old who requested a laptop and an iPhone for Christmas and I think that is just CRAZY! A five-year-old has no business getting that for Christmas! Goodness, haha. Growing up in Guymon, I always looked forward to several things, one being the parade. I was very sad to find out that the parade hasn't happened in two years! It was always a tradition for my family to all go to the parade together, all bundled up. I loved it! I especially loved going to visit Santa afterward! I hope this tradition comes back because it was really special to me, as I'm sure it was for many of you. Healthcare.... I'm not even going to go into this all that much, but I do have to mention that I am glad at least something is being done. I stayed up past 1 a.m. this morning watching the historic healthcare vote in the Senate. Although they were just voting on an amendment, it gave the healthcare bill a green light; it really is a victory for the democrats. It looks like our senators will be working all the way until late Christmas Eve getting this one out of the cage. Finally, our Senators will know what it's like to work late nights and holidays! Speaking of our senators, I was surprised to have Oklahoma's own Senator, Dr. Tom Coburn, demand that the bill be read in its entirety. I didn't know whether to be proud, or just confused! Haha. Sorry to get off track there, but I figured that I better get that off my mind! So like I mentioned before, there are only four days until Christmas, so if you don't have your shopping done, you better get on it! Shop local! Support your hometown of Guymon! It's a 'Holly, Jolly, Christmas!' Merry Christmas, all!
And that's how Trav C's it!
