It is said that practice makes perfect and in the case of some musicians at Guymon High and Junior High, the long hours of practice has paid off.
On Saturday,November 14, bands from five states came to Guymon to try out for the Five States Honor Band.  There were about 400 junior high and high school students in attendance. The band members tried out in front of a black curtain and were only known as a number they picked when they signed in.  When the day was finished, the following Guymon students had made the band:
Junior High-
Trumpets:  Colton Soukup - 14th Chair; Snare:  Marcos Serna - 4th Chair, Matthew Carter-2nd alternate; Trombone:  Humberto Jimenez - 11th Chair and Jose Baltiera -4th alternate; Alto Sax:  Angel Perez - 1st alternate; Oboe:  Brianna Egger -  1st Chair; Clarinet:  Amber Longwell - 6th Chair; Euphonium:  Noe Aguilar - 1st alternate and Jacob Schmitt - 2nd alternate.
High School- Piccolo: Heidi Solberg - 1st Chair; Flute: Olivia Darcey - 2nd Chair, Kassidi Partida - 4th Chair, Heidie Solberg - 8th Chair, LaKrisha Baker - 9th Chair, Hope Hendrix - 2nd alternate and Caitlyn Christe - 3rd alternate; Oboe: Heather Scott - 2nd Chair; Clarinet: Mackenzie Barron - 3rd Chair, Marisa Taylor - 5th Chair,  Adriana De Santiago - 6th Chair, Tori Solberg - 11th Chair, Mariela Rico - 12th Chair, Brenda Rivera - 14th Chair and Valerie Chair - 22nd Chair; Bass Clarinet: Shelby Griffing -  4th Chair, Kassie Betterton - 5th Chair and Shelby Kuykendall - 2nd alternate; Eb Contra Clarinet: Genesis Sosa - 1st Chair; Alto Saxophone: Jacob Stonecipher - 3rd Chair, Annette DeSantiago - 5th Chair and Antonio Garcia - 6th Chair; Tenor Saxophone: Isaac Bledsoe - 3rd Chair; Trumpet: Austin Hardman - 3rd Chair, Gustavo Ramirez - 4th Chair, Nalley Jarmillo - 10th Chair, Trey Fankhouser - 13th Chair, Landon Wadley -  3rd alternate and Heather Lindsey - 4th Alternate; Horn: Ashlee Ortiz - 3rd Chair, Joseph Ulibarri - 4th Chair and Ruth Longwell - 5th Chair; Trombone: Fabian DeSantiago - 1st Chair and Miguel Barrios -  2nd alternate; Euphonium: Garrett Messenger - 2nd alternate; Tuba: Manuel Guadian - 2nd Chair, Nick Ramos - 4th Chair and Jassen Maldonado - 2nd alternate.
The Honor Band will perform December 12, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. at the Guymon High School auditorium. Guymon would like to thank all of the towns that participated in the try-outs:  Liberal, Dalhart, Gruver, Perryton, Spearman, Booker, Turpin, Laverne, Beaver, Elkhart, Boise City, and Hooker as well as all the band directors and individuals that helped make the 2009 Honor Band Try-Outs a huge success.
