New E911 System Crawling

The city of Guymon has contracted with Interact/Mapping Company SDR to put in a new E911 system that will allow 911 dispatchers to know the location of 911 calls made via a cell phone.  The current system only recognizes addresses of "land line" 911 calls at present.
However, it was determined at last Tuesday's E911 board meeting that it may be as long as eight months before the system is ready.
According to Rita Hill, Guymon Police Department Communication Supervisor, the system will be implemented in two phases.  When asked which phase the system has reached, Hill deadpanned, "Phase 0".
The goal is for Guymon to become a regional 911 system that would include the counties of Cimarron and Beaver.
The price tag for the new system is $ 253,671 and Police Chief Eddie Adamson assured the board the wait would be worth it.
"Once completed, we will have the most up-to-date system around." he stated.  That is especially good news since Texas County is the second largest county in Oklahoma.
In other board news, Hill reported there were 198 October 911 calls made.  Friday is the busiest day in the 911 center followed by Saturday, Hill noted.  The board voted to meet the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in 2010.  The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the police department and is open to the public
