On a night Guymon honored their seniors, a pair of underclassmen displayed possible a glimpse of the Tigers football future. Sophomore Dakota Harris hooked up with freshman Arron Costilla on a 14-yard touchdown pass to put Guymon on the scoreboard with 23 seconds remaining to break Weatherford's chance at posting a shutout Friday night. For good measure Harris made the final score 48-8 when he bulled his way through the Wildcats reserves for the two-point conversion. What comes of results of the play will have to wait to next season. A season that will be better than the 1-9 record Guymon recorded in 2009. Outside of the late touchdown by the two Tigers youngsters the game was all Wildcats. Running back Kale Sawatzky showed why he's one of the best runners in Class 4A by scoring two touchdowns while amassing 108 yards in just 13 carries. Sawatzky didn't have to run very far for his first score. A five-yard run on the game's second play of scrimmage produced a touchdown. Teammate Kyler Skinner set up Sawatzky's short run by running the opening kickoff 79 yards to the Guymon 11. Down 7-0 after Kendrick Johnson's extra point, Tigers head coach Joe Litsch called a flea flicker play to put Guymon at midfield. Unfortunately, it was one of just a couple big gains the Tigers had. Weatherford's defense took the Colter Headrick completed pass off the gadget play as a test of their ability. Which the Wildcats promptly forced Guymon to turn the ball back to Weatherford on a fourth down punt four plays later. The only problem Weatherford had offensively they created themselves. Twice in the first half they had touchdowns called back on penalties. That didn't bother the Wildcats much. Quarterback Jack Barrios culminated two drives on TD runs of 16 and 8 yards to open a 20-0 lead with 2 minutes, 43 seconds left in the first half. Guymon senior Raul Carrillo had the Tigers one shining moment of the half when he blocked Johnson's extra point try. A bit of goofiness, plus slow reaction from Guymon resulted in Weatherford's third score in the waning seconds of the second quarter. After moving from the Tigers 48 to the seven, Barrios kept the last play of the half alive when he flipped the ball to Johnson in the backfield. Johnson moved to his left to avoid the rush and found R.J. Brinkley unguarded in the end zone for a 27-0 lead. Sawatzy had his biggest gain — a 46-yard touchdown run — with 4:03 remaining in the third quarter to end his and most of the Wildcats regulars night.
