MHTC Awarded
Monday, 02 November 2009
By KATIE MARTIRE
Managing Editor

Memorial Hospital of Texas County (MHTC) recently received a Clinical Improvement award as well as High Performance for Length of Stay from the Voluntary Hospitals of America (VHA), as reported by Quality Inspector Christine Kirk at the monthly medical board meeting last Tuesday evening.
"We work with the VHA very closely for quality improvement and we have received an award for high performance for length of stay," said Christine Kirk, Q.I. for the MHTC. "Our emergency room rates are lower than the national average and even though we work on a daily basis to make sure we get our E.R. patients out as quickly as we can, we always strive for a lower length of stay and patient satisfaction. We have been below the national benchmark for the last two years and I think that is great. We also received a clinical improvement award from the same organization. We received that award for 100 percent for medications administered with any acute M.I. patient, that mean anyone who comes in with a heart attack, pneumonia, surgery care and heart failure."
"No matter what, we strive for 100 percent. Each and every time we are not at 100 percent, we strive to address the issue and try to make improvements. The other thing is that our hospital is one of 31 hospitals that were awarded for their E.R. and for the clinical improvement for heart attacks. The VHA serves more than 1400 non-profit hospitals and only 31 of those hospital were awarded and we were one of them."
The goals as introduced by Kirk after informing the board of the recent awards was that the staff at the MHTC strives to treat all customers with courtesy and respect, listen to them carefully, always explain procedures, help the patients in a timely manor, keep their space clean and quiet, to keep patient's pain under control, explanations of medications and explain discharge instructions to keep the patients of Texas County coming back and supporting the local hospital and also recommend the hospital to their friends and family.
