Straight from Grand Junction, Colo., Phil Sandoval is a fresh face, not only to Guymon but to the Guymon Daily Herald. Stepping in for the previous sports editor Shawn Yorks, Sandoval has been been a professional journalism since the ripe age of 17. With 36 years of journalism and sports experience under his belt, Sandoval is an asset to this local newspaper. Having just moved to Guymon, Sandoval's goal for the sports section is to give equal coverage to all athletes, young and old. Despite being born with spinal meningitis, he has never let that get him down. During his sports career he has volunteered his time with the Special Olympics and coached cheerleading for around 25 years. When Sandoval was a child he dreamed of becoming the L.A. Dodgers Media Information Department but is very content with the path he has traveled. While not working, he loves to read mountains of books at Barnes and Noble. He admits that his guilty pleasures include eating brownie sundaes and pumpkin ice cream. He really enjoys pop and contemporary music, mostly top 40. His favorite movies are "Hoosiers" and "A League of their Own." His all time favorite t.v. show is "Shark Tank" and if he could choose his dream car, it would have to be a 1966 Mustang, hard-top.
