After experiencing the worst tragedy a parent can possibly go through, one family is fighting back against the system that they feel has failed them. Jarrett and Jamie Glover lost their son, Xander Thomas Glover on Aug. 24, 2008, in a two-vehicle collision. He was 3 years old. After almost losing her own life as well as the lives of the other people in the vehicle (her other children and cousin.) Jamie would like to do whatever it takes to change Oklahoma law for those who are driving large work trucks that are not street legal. “I put my story online so that people can see what the long-term disadvantages are about a tragedy like this,” said Jamie. “I am trying to get a petition set up to see if there is any way to get the Oklahoma Law changed. We set up a memorial for Xander on virtualmemorials.com, it all about Xander’s life, his family and how much he meant to us. At the bottom of his story is the description of our wreck and the events of that horrible day. This is just a way for people who have experienced tragedies like this to share their stories and also a way for people to try and get the laws changed if possible. “The laws that Oklahoma has for crimes like these should be changed,” said Jamie. “We would like to get the minimum sentencing changed for people who kill people in vehicles. In Oklahoma, people can keep their CDL if the crime is simply a misdemeanor, but there was a lot more to our story, the person responsible for our wreck had been in a wreck twice prior to this wreck but was able to keep their CDL. Our goal is to have enough people sign Xander’s memorial so that we can send a petition down to the State Legislature and anywhere else we can send so that these laws have a stronger penalty.” To support this family on their quest to find justice for those who will experience tragedy similar to theirs, go to www.virtualmemorials.com, enter Xander Glover, sign the guest book or share a similar story. Sometimes the penalty for laws is not fair to the families who experience them. Tragedy can strike anytime, it does not discriminate.
