Guymon High School FFA Officers attended the 2009 Oklahoma FFA Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) Conference Tuesday, September 29. The conference was held at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center in Enid, Okla. "What do you see?" was the theme for this year's conference, eight state officers planned the theme. Six elected officers from each of the 63 high school FFA chapters, located in the northwest district, attended leadership training. The training was designed to help the officers lead their local FFA members, as well as provide positive direction for their chapters, schools and communities. "This year, the conference is designed to encourage local chapter officers to lead and serve with integrity," said Amy Peel, state FFA president, in a press release. "We hope to inspire them to make a positive difference in their local chapters." The keynote speaker for the conference was Josh Brecheen, Coalgate, Okla. Brecheen served as the FFA President in 1988 through 1999. He is currently a Field Representative for the United States Senator Tom Coburn. Officers attending from Guymon included; President Amber Wells, Vice President Megan Barton, Secretary Courtney Hendrick, Treasurer Shanda Baugh, Reporter Zak Laubach, Sentinel Tristan Costner, Chaplain Tene´ Nelson, Parliamentarian Catie Weippert, Historian Kim Sample and Advisors Mr. Laubach and Mr. Sapp. The FFA is an integral part of the Agriculture Education Division of the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. There are 23,427 Oklahoma FFA members in 357 high schools.
