With many topics discussed at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County's monthly board meeting, the replacement of the hospital's elevator and fire alarm system were among these issues. The July executive summary was presented to the board, net patient revenue of $1,668,929 is ($290,277) or -15 percent under budget. Inpatient revenue is ($155,792) under budget. Outpatient revenue is ($240,736) under budget. Home Health and Hospice revenues are $2,342 over budget. Texhoma Clinic is posting a net loss of ($8,780) which is ($9,244) under budget. High Plains Clinic is posting a net income of $1,946 which is $12,869 over budget. Panhandle Pediatrics is posting a net loss of ($3,354) which is under budget ($6,780). High Plains Internal Medicine and Family Practice is posting a net loss of ($27,504) which is under budget ($27,676). Total operating expenses of $1,691,532 are $261,472 or 13 percent under budget. Bad Debt of $282,582 is $87,673 or 24 percent under budget. The board voted to purchase the Westenhaver Clinic at 421 Medical Drive and also voted to the bid of $31,964.40 Arctic Pro Roofing out of Amarillo, Texas to re-roof the facility. Also receiving a new roof will be the Hooker Clinic at 706 W. Panhandle in Hooker, Okla. Kingsland Construction gave a bid of $8800, $1300 over the budgeted price. The board also decided not to sell any of the land at 1754 N. Roosevelt. "We decided not to sell any piece or parcel, we would rather keep the entire building," said CEO of MHTC Jim Grocholski. The new business portion of the agenda included the replacement of the hospital's elevator that was installed in 1947 and utilized in 1949, the 60 plus year-old elevator is in need of replacement, the one story elevator is what is used by staff and also would be used in the event of a tornado. The elevator is large enough to fit a hospital bed and the replacement was much more costly that the board had intended. One bid was received in the amount of $149,000 but after voting, the board decided to seek further bids before approving that amount. A special meeting will be held in the near future once more information has been gathered. A full replacement of the fire alarm system was approved, lightning recently shorted the alarm system. The system is also very old and parts are no longer available, there are currently 173 smoke detectors in the hospital and the board is waiting to hear from insurance to see if system will be fully covered. The board made it clear this life safety issue is priority. The medical staff report was presented by Dr. Chris Slater, credentialing of local doctors was also approved, advancing to provisional are Dr. Wael Faltas, MD, Dr. William Ediger, MD (ER), Dr. Jackson Ombaba, MD (ER), and DR. Glen Henry, MD (OBGYN).
