Ever heard of pedal pulling? Well, one local girl has taken the sport by storm, advancing all the way to the international competition and placing there. Grace Robison, 9, of Guymon, recently traveled to the international pedal pulling contest at the Corn Palace in Fairfield, Iowa. There she competed with other young girls who advanced to the competition. Robison started pedal pulling just two years ago and has quickly become successful. The international competition stems all the way from a local competition. Robison competed and placed last August in Guymon's pedal pulling contest. Guymon has its own pedal pulling contest in conjunction with the Texas County Fair in August. Pedal pulling consists of children pedaling a small tractor with weight on it. The weigh slowly slides down the back until the child can no longer pull it. The child who pulls the furthest, wins the competition. Robison then advanced to the state level and after placing there, to the national level. That's when she had the opportunity to go to internationals. The international competition hosts young boys and girls who advanced from all across the United States and Canada. Robison beat out nearly 100 other girls to advance. Placing third at the International Pedal Pulling Competition, Robison pulled her tractor 26 feet and one inch. On the back of the tractor is 320 pounds that slowly lowers and increases the pressure. Helping Robison and her family make the trip were B & B Sales, Guymon Auto Sales, Chris Wescott, Chaz Longwell and Lane Lowerage. Robison says she intends to continue her quest of pedal pulling and her younger sister will also begin competing soon. "Pedal Pulling is all she ever talks about," said her dad. "She loves it." She is currently a fourth grader at Northridge Christian School.
