Guymon's weather may be extremely hot outside but one new business in town is staying nice and cool. High Plains Ice will soon be making its debut as the premiere ice company in Guymon. Already having ice shipped to them to be distributed, High Plains Ice plans to begin producing their own ice on Monday. Operating Manager, Randy Murphy explained that assembly on their state-of-the-art ice machine is now officially complete and ice will begin to be bagged on Monday. Bags of ice will be available in seven and 20 pound bags. The company already has plenty of vendors that are beginning to sell their ice. Surrounding cities such as Perryton, Turpin, Forgan and Beaver are embracing the company. Several Guymon businesses are beginning to sell the ice, as well. Advanced Water Solutions installed the water filtration system in what they describe as one of the largest systems they have ever installed. The filtering system uses ultraviolet rays to cleanse and purify the water which is then frozen into ice. The entire process of creating the ice is done intricately and efficiently. The ice machine has the capability to use 500 gallons of water an hour and create 50 tons of ice in a 24 hour period. The need for an ice company in Guymon arose when people realized that the nearest ice supplier was hours away. High Plains Ice plans to bring ice to vendors at a fair and comparable price. Some local businesses, such as Walmart, have their own ice bagging/despensing machines. Murphy explained that while nothing is wrong with this ice, it doesn't have the appropriate time to harden. High Plain's Ice's product is hit with a hot gas that ensures it's hardness and then it is stored for four to five hours in zero degree temperatures. This is a feature that those machines do not have. High Plains Ice is owned by a group of local investors. It is located in the Guymon Business Enterprise Center (formerly Adams Hard Facing) where they employ five full-time employees. "We hope to double our staff as our market share increases," said Murphy.
