They say food is the way to one's heart. If that's true, Guymon resident Roz Keimig has won over the largest heart in the state of Oklahoma. Winning the grand prize at the 2009 Recipe Round Up Contest held in Tulsa on Friday, June 12, Keimig took home a KitchenAid kitchen Makeover valued at $7,000 for her Stacked Steak Salad.
"I was thrilled to be selected as the grand prize winner," said Keimig. "The MIO Round Up Contest is the best cooking contest I have entered." Keimig is also entered in the national Paula Dean Cooking Contest.
The competition's categories consisted of Pleasin' Appetizers, Dig In Dessert, Main Entrée and Best Recipe. Twenty-two contestants left with prizes for best recipes in these categories. The contestants used a specific "Made in Oklahoma" product, Keimig also won the Best Recipe category using a Chef's Requested Product.
"We were very pleased with the statewide response to the Recipe Round Up contest this year," said Executive Director of the Made in Oklahoma Coalition, Richard Wasson. "The participants really embraced using Made in Oklahoma products and that was best reflected in our winning recipes."
The Recipe Round Up began in March and ended at the end of May of this year. Contest participants were asked to combine their original recipes with the Made in Oklahoma products. The final products were prepared by students in the culinary arts program at the OSU Institution of Technology in Okmulgee and judged by local food columnists and chefs across the state.
