So you think you can cook? Guymon's largest Food Competition will give competitors the chance to win cash for their cooking abilities. The best chef's are challenged to come compete for the chance to win up to $3000. The Best Appetizer, Best Meat Dish and Best Dessert will be determined at the Sunflower Festival in downtown Guymon on Saturday, June 6.
The Sunflower Art, Food and Wine Festival is the perfect opportunity to share a special recipe and provide a chance to win cash prizes.
"We have a few entries in the food competition right now but not many and I have a feeling someone's pie recipe they got from Grandma is going to bring home the bacon," said James Pierce, Event Coordinator of the Wild Horse Art Gallery. "I think as we get more entries in there is the possibility of huge upset. Someone could come in with a handful of tasty recipes and win it all."
To be eligible for the judged division, competitors must present their Best Appetizer dish by 11 a.m., the Best Meat Dish by 12:30 p.m. and the Best Dessert Dish by 1:30 p.m., along with a $20 entry fee per category and a completed entry form. Competitors are obligated to prepare enough to feed the judges but if one would like to participate in the People's Choice Award for $500, make enough to feed the general public. To participate in the People's Choice Award, one must have their food ready by 11 a.m. Preparing enough to feed the crowd will better secure votes to win.
Food competitors will be judged on their presentation with extra points to entertaining teams who come out in uniforms or costumes. Showmanship goes along ways to impress the judges. Competitors will also be judged on organization, teamwork and style in addition to appearance of the entry, taste, originality, aroma and texture.
The Sunflower Art, Food and Wine Festival is sponsored in part by Guymon Convention and Tourism and the Oklahoma Art Council.
