Hospital Board Gives Update

Memorial Hospital of Texas County held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, April 28. As reported in the last several meetings, all is still running smoothly in Guymon. Discussion topics included the quality report, possibility of purchasing the building at 421 Medical Drive, the new CFO and the financial reports. The Board also gave some clarification regarding the swine flu. "The quality council did meet this month, we do have some teams working together to address medication administration and we are working on any issues to minimize any kind of medication errors that we might have," said Christine Kirk, the QI who presents the Quality Report at each meeting. "We continuously monitor any pediatric admissions that we have for their appropriate quality of care and we are also working on some education for enhanced quality improvement training." When asked by a Board member about the frequency of medication errors, Kirk was proud to announce, "the national average for medication errors is at 2 percent but the Texas County Memorial Hospital is sitting at a .1 percent." The Board was quite pleased with this number. Jim Grocholski, CEO, was present to discuss the possibility of purchasing the building across the street from the Hospital, 421 Medical Drive, the Board decided the cost plus the cost of renovation would not be the best route to go at this point. Grocholski had several contractors bid on the renovation and the Board decided to vote no on the purchasing of the building at this point in time. The new CFO, Steve Stewart, was in attendance to present the financial portion of the meeting, Stewart came to Guymon from Liberal, Kan. The Board voted to accept the financial report. Before giving the executive summary, Grocholski said, "We hired a Medical Records Director, the individual should be here about the Middle off May and we are actively seeking doctors." The net patient revenue of $1,713,510 is ($23,590) or -1% under budget. Inpatient revenue is ($271,353) under budget. Outpatient revenue is $307,479 over budget. Home Health and Hospice revenues are ($12,096) under budget. Texhoma Clinic is posting a net loss of ($4,319) which is $7,928 over budget. High Plains Clinic is posting a net loss of ($5,332) which is ($4,374) under budget. Panhandle Pediatrics is posting a net loss of ($4,604) which is under budget ($35,858). Total operating expenses of $1,733,541 are $90,435 or 5% under budget. Bad Debt expense of $322,333 is $48,054 or 13% under budget. Infection Control Nurse, Liz Lim, later added the Hospital of Texas County has been in coordination with the Health Department to take every measure to ensure the safety and health of our patients and all of the people entering the facility. They are being proactive about it, many meetings, supplies or anything else needed to prevent this epidemic from hitting home have been taken. There are still no confirmed cases as of Friday, May 1.
