Speeding led the District Attorney's Office to another drug trafficking bust Tuesday, April 21. The bust net 25 pounds of marijuana. According the Probable Cause Affidavit filed at the Texas County Court Clerk’s Office, on April 21 a black 2002 GMC Yukon was in the middle of passing through Goodwell on Highway 54 when Freedom Lee Jansen and her husband, Joey L. Jansen, were cruising through the town looking inconspicuous to others until a D.A. Agent made a traffic stop for the vehicle speeding over the limit. During the stop a K-9 was deployed and detected the presence of illegal narcotics. More agents were dispatched to the scene and after inspection of the vehicle, the 25.2 pounds of marijuana was found in the spare tire under the vehicle. Carrying this amount results in a felony and several other charges. The two were taken to the Texas County Detention Center and the vehicle was impounded. The Jansens are facing possible charges that could result in between $50,000 to $210,000 in fines and possible imprisonment for 21 years or more. The charges both are facing are trafficking an illegal drug within 2000 feet of a school or park (felony), conspiracy to commit trafficking in an illegal drug within 2000 feet of a school or park (felony), and possession of a CDS without tax stamp affixed (felony). Their bond was set at $150,000 each and have yet to make their initial appearance in court.
