Although the onset of winter snow storms can make ones schedule a little hectic with driving, the dismissal of school and just getting from point A to point B, no one  can deny the beauty that comes with a heavy snow fall. This snow-packed tree is evidence of this.

Brown, Barbosa To Lock Horns Feb. 10

The two candidates running for Guymon Public Schools Board of Education Office No. 1 in the Feb. 10 election are Steve Brown and Andrew Barbosa.
Steve Brown is the 44 year old Independent from Guymon who says, “I want the best education I can possibly get for my children.”  
Brown and his wife Marlene have three children ages 5, 7 and 10.  He is currently employed at Seaboard Foods but has served as a volunteer firefighter since 1999 and a volunteer paramedic since 2005.  Brown is also the co-owner of Freedom Bail Bonds.
Brown is a 1987 graduate from Kansas State University with a B.S. in Animal Sciences and Industry and is currently continuing his education at Oklahoma Panhandle State University.  He is enrolled in a Paramedic/RN bridge program and is a member of the newly formed Oklahoma Disaster Medical Response Team.
This is the first political race Brown has run in but he has served as the Student Body President for the 85-86 class of K-State and has served on the search committee for the K-State University president in 1986.
Andrew David Barbosa is the 25 year old Democrat from Guymon who says, “It is essential to me that our children are getting the education needed to be competitive in the future.  It is my belief that as board members we must be held accountable for the programs and curriculum we provide.  We must strive to provide an environment conductive to learning and free of distractions.”
Barbosa and his wife Shelli have three children ages 1, 2 and 5.  
He is currently serving as a Guymon Fire Fighter, Paramedic, an EagleMed Flight Paramedic since 2008 and he has been employed by the City of Guymon since June of 2002.
Barbosa is a 2002 graduate from Guymon High School and is currently seeking an AAS in Fire Science and a BA in Political Science from Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
Barbosa has been a member of the Guymon Fire Fighters Club since 2001, the Guymon Emergency Medical Association since 2002 and is currently the Professional Fire Fighters of Oklahoma Local 4256 Vice President.
