Mayor Not in Race for City Council, Last Minute Filers Compete By MIRANDA GILBERT & JAMES PIERCE
Guymon Mayor Larry Stump elected not to run again in this year’s City Council Election of April 7. As of Wednesday afternoon, with a file deadline of 5 p.m. looming, Mayor Stump's seat in Ward I was still vacant. Before the 5 p.m. deadline, however, two citizens threw their names into the pot. Vying for the seat of councilmember for Ward 1 are Jim Norris and Donald L. Scott . Another race will be held for Ward 2, with incumbent councilman Mike Pritchard up against William L. King. All other councilmembers will complete their staggered terms. Candidates will race against one another in other Panhandle elections, while some candidates are uncontested. In Hooker, Okla., Doug Pritchard filed for Council-member, Ward 2; David M. Vail for Council-member, Ward 4 ; and Joan Kuhn and Patti Moore will race against one another for Treasurer. Goodwell, Okla., will also hold an election with Sam Nelson and Duke Arbutnot both filing for Trustee. Russell S. Edenborough is uncontested for Treasurer. Joshua Hobbs, Tenoch Ramon, Peter K. Camfield, John P. Townsend and Bryant Riffe all filed for the position of Trustee (unexpired term). Robert D. Berry and Dean Rhoden filed for the Trustee vacancies in Texhoma, Okla. Terry L. McBride , Denzil Duvall and Rusty Robertson filed for the three Trustee positions in Tyrone, Okla., and Patti Ray filed uncontested for Treasurer. The General Election for these municipal offices will be on April 7, 2009. Look to the Guymon Daily Herald for candiate biographies and platforms in contested races.
