Despite the bitter cold, many Guymon and area residents came out to Hitch Arena on Wednesday night to celebrate the New Years Eve Ball Drop and $25,000 Champagne Toast with Artist Incubation and KKBS. Local favorite, Bipolar Echo provided outstanding entertainment for the evening and throughout the entire celebration with Seaboard, Artist Incubation and Hardesty Cheese on hand serving food and refreshments. Unfortunately, no one went home with the $25,000 Champagne Toast Prize. Of the five names selected over the evening, only one, Desiree Bellows was given the chance to select the right glass and win. Those festive enough to brave the cold for the final countdown and ball drop caught the debut performance of a new local band Toast, whose show lasted only five minutes, the first five minutes of 2009. Their performance fulfilled an age old tradition of singing Auld Lang Syne to toast the new year. The song is a Scottish ballad about reuniting and remembering old friends that has been sung at many new year's celebrations around the world.
