Ice Causes Head On Collision Near Turpin |

TURPIN — A deadly head-on collision Tuesday evening was caused by icy road conditions, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report. A 2002 Ford sedan driven by Herber E. Pleitez Jovel, 46, of Houston, Texas, was northbound on U.S. Highway 83, a mile south of Turpin at 7:28 p.m. when he lost control and collided head-on with a bus driven by Kenneth Cruse, 61, of Perryton, Texas. The driver of the bus was not injured and it was not known if there were passengers on the bus. Seatbelts were in use in both vehicles. The driver of the Ford was pinned for 20 minutes. The accident was investigated by Trooper Eric Brown of the Hooker Detachment, with assistance from Lt. David Welch of the Beaver Detachment, Trooper Josh Belle of the Beaver Detachment, the Beaver County Sheriff's Department, the Turpin Fire Department and the Seward County (Kan.) EMS. —Shawn Yorks
