Popcorn, popcorn, popcorn! Chocolate-coated, caramel, butter, cheesy and trail mixes are available from the scouts 27th annual Boy Scouts popcorn sale.
The scouts have hit the streets running to get their sales and will continue sales through Monday, October 20.
"We have scout units all across Texas County and all over the Panhandle so it's occurring lots of places simultaneously. From Turpin, Hooker, Guymon , Keys, Boise City, Texhoma, Goodwell and then down on in to Stratford and Dalhart, Texas," Steve Knollenburg, senior district executive, said.
Each individual unit sets a goal for sales that is driven by how much the unit believes they'll need for their budget over the year.
"It all goes for the benefit for the kids and helps support training and camps for the kids," Knollenburg said.
Selling the popcorn will help the scouts fund their "Ideal Year of Scouting."
An ideal year for scouts and their families includes: camping at Philmont Scout Ranch, a fall fun "Spook-O-Ree" at Camp Don Harrington, food drives, building and racing derby cars, earning merit badges while learning concepts and skills, attending summer and resident camps and receiving special awards for their accomplishments.
One can help their local scouts by buying popcorn when a scout comes to their door.
The scouts are also looking to recruit new cubs during their fall 2008 recruitment. To sign up or get more information the scouts are hosting a recruitment on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Academy Elementary cafeteria.
If you would like a scout to stop by a residence or business, contact Robert Hardman at (580) 468-8411 or Nancy Brewer (580) 338-1434.
For more information on joining the scouts contact Steve Knollenburg at (580) 651-2615.
