TEXHOMA—A runner called out for leaving the base too soon might have cost Texhoma’s varsity a loss to Boise City last night.
The Lady Devils had already beaten Boise City all four times the two teams had played so far this season, including an 18-1 thumping Saturday night that won the Tyrone Softball Tournament for Texhoma.
Head coach Greg Higgins said the critical moment came when Bailey Talbert hit a line drive over the center fielder’s head that went all the way to the fence. At the time a potential tying run was on base. An umpire called a third out saying that Tabra Elliott left the base too quickly.
The final score was 8-4.
“We had beaten them four times. That was the fifth time we played,” Higgins said.
“They (Boise City) had no hits. We gave up four bases on balls and one hit batter,” he said. “Bailey had four strikeouts.”
Higgins said the Lady Devils had several fielding errors and over throws that Boise City capitalized on, but he said all of the mistakes were correctable errors.
“We hit the ball well. We had several hits to the outfield and line drives to the infield,” he said.
Texhoma committed six errors and stranded seven runners on base.
The Lady Devils had four runs batted in. Talbert, Reagan Higgins, Tayci Peterson and Braelyn Beattie each had one RBI.
The second game was played between the Texhoma and Boise City junior variety squads. Boise City won that game 15-9.
Texhoma next plays at the Beaver-Forgan Tournament Friday and Saturday.
The first game will be against Laverne at Beaver at 3:30 p.m., on Friday, followed by a game with Turpin in Forgan at 4:45 p.m. The outcome of those games will determine the pairings on Saturday.
