The generous members of the Soldiers For Christ Motorcycle Ministry are providing the concessions for the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Texas County in Guymon this Friday, July 20 and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the fight against cancer.
Ministry member, Nancy Miller, said, “This is what we do as an organization, we give back to the community and we all agreed that helping to stop the death and suffering from cancer really helps everyone. We are proud to be a part of the Relay For Life of Texas County and we look forward to serving up lots of food that night to all the cancer fighters.”
The 17th annual Relay For Life of Texas County is celebrating life, remembering those lost and fighting back with a “Carnival for a Cure” and the Soldiers For Christ will be serving lots of favorite carnival foods like funnel cakes, fried Oreos and cotton candy. Their menu also offers great-tasting meals featuring hand-made corndogs, burgers and cheeseburgers, hot dogs, frito pies, nachos and corn on the cob with handmade French fries, potato ribbons and onion rings.
The motorcycle ministry volunteers will even be hand-squeezing lemons and limes for fresh lemonade and cherry limeade to offer along with ice tea, green tea, coffee and pop.
Relay For Life committee members invite everyone to come for the food and stay to Relay this Friday at the Texas County County Activity Center at Fifth and Sunset in Guymon. The concession stand opens at 6:30 p.m. with live entertainment starting at 7 p.m.
Following the 8 p.m. opening ceremony, all cancer survivors and caregivers will be honored during the Celebrate Ceremony and all the teams are offering fun carnival games and activities through the night.
At 10 p.m., the fun and games will pause, however, for the lighting of hundreds of luminaria during the Remember Ceremony as participants reflect on all that cancer has cost in lives that have been stolen by cancer and the difficult challenges faced by survivors.
Carnival games continue along with team contests and competitions until 5 a.m. when the Fight Back Ceremony will be held to encourage everyone to make the daily battle against cancer a way of life. Area Lions Clubs will serve up breakfast at 5:30 a.m. and the closing ceremony is set for 7 a.m. July 21.
