Ruth M. Maxwell, 92, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the Heritage Community Center in Guymon. The daughter of Iva (Morrison) and Leslie McConnell, she was born June 13, 1919 at Washington, Pa. Young Ruth McConnell graduated from Claysville High School. She was united in marriage to Ralph Maxwell on Oct. 16, 1942. The Maxwell family lived and reared their family in Aliquippa, Pa. Family and faith were the basics of Ruth Maxwell’s life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. In the early 1940s, when money was scarce, the Maxwell’s made one of their first and more important purchases as newlyweds and bought a family Bible. Ruth was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Aliquippa, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was involved in many other church activities. She later joined the Ohio United Presbyterian Church of Hopewell, Pa. In addition to being an excellent homemaker, Ruth worked as a telephone operator.After retirement, she and Ralph enjoyed 14 warm winters in Pinellas Park, Fla. Ralph Maxwell passed away in 1992 and Ruth later moved to Guymon to be closer to her son and family. In Guymon, Ruth was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, where she was involved in Sunday school and Bible studies. Ruth is survived by her three children; daughter Mrs. Martha Langston and husband Bill of Florence, S.C.; sons, Kenneth W. Maxwell and wife Barb of Geneva, Switzerland, and Edward R. Maxwell and wife Lane of Guymon; brother Kenneth W. McConnell and wife Priscilla of Washington, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Jason Maxwell and wife Lara; Erin Maxwell; Lauren and husband Mike Connolly; Scotty Maxwell and wife Kristi; Julie Langston; Lindsey Maxwell and Madison Maxwell; and five great grandchildren, Jack and Ava Maxwell; Bryson, Brock and Addison Connolly. She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters, Verla Post, Connie Pettit and Opal Dorsey; and four brothers, Leslie, Raymond, Bill and Ralph McConnell. Visitation will be Monday, May 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Huntsman Funeral Home, 2345 Mill Street in Aliquippa, Pa. Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. at the Huntsman Funeral Home with interment following in Grandview Cemetery in Florence, Pa.
