Once again a group of talented performers and eager community volunteers are putting on a very special show to raise funds for the local emergency youth shelter. This year’s event is another murder mystery dinner theater complete with a prime rib dinner, drinks, musical entertainment and a chance for the audience to influence the outcome.
“Murdered by the Mob” will be performed four times over two February weekends. The show dates are Feb. 10, 11, 17 and 18 with performances to begin at 6:30. Tickets are available at Panhandle Printing located at 119 NW 4th in Guymon.
“What makes this show special is not only a hilarious group of characters but also the unusual location,” said performance director, Kristy Patterson. “Thanks to the generosity of Sam Fuqua and the owners and employees of Southern Office Supply, we are presenting this year’s murder mystery in their lobby in what many may remember as the Hotel Dale. This fabulous building still features many of the ornate elements of the former hotel with a giant chandelier, grand staircase and the original hotel check in desk. I think audiences are going to love the performers being all around them and over them in the balcony. The intimacy of the space makes this year’s show a terrific treat.”
The play takes place during the roaring twenties with the hotel lobby transformed into a back alley speakeasy. Ticket holders will be asked to use a password on their tickets to get in through the backdoor. Flappers, gangsters, silent movie stars and other surprised guests come and go and are under suspicion when a prominent character is mysteriously murdered. The audience gets to vote on which character is guilty of the crime while being directed by an investigating G Man.
The production provides the audience with a wide variety of vocal and dance performances all using popular songs from the era which are performed during a coursed prime rib dinner. All this jam-packed entertainment is available for only $50.
“We have a great group of volunteers working on the show,” added Patterson “Many of the popular folks from last year’s production are returning plus some new faces I think will provide audiences with a fun, entertaining night which benefits a wonderful cause.”
Due to the size of the lobby, seating is limited and tickets should be purchased in advance. The event is presented just before and following Valentine’s Day and would be a great gift to celebrate the holiday.
