More ‘trashy’ areas identified

More areas of Guymon that contain unsightly trash were identified this week, thanks to one concerned citizen. Orville Cumiford brought the areas to the GDH’s attention in response to Monday’s article about illegal dumping.
“It’s gotten worse this year and it’s really a sad deal,” Cumiford said. “The city has got to do more about it.”
During a second look at the areas in question, led by Cumiford, the Guymon Daily Herald witnessed more of the problem, which includes not only random trash but tree limbs, furniture and roofing materials strung throughout the area.
“Everyday there’s something new out here,” said Cumiford.
Other items adding to the problem are chairs and school desks thrown down the hill behind the football field.
Cumiford said the school should take precautions to better store their equipment to keep kids from vandalizing it.
Residents are reminded that such items are to be taken to the transfer station, which is located at 3133 Road T.
The hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.

Perhaps storing such items in an enclosed storage area and not out in the open might discourage others who actually do dump items there illegally.•Shawn Yorks
