Lonzo Eaton, 94, of Bakersfield, Calif. went to be with his Savior Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012.
Lonzo was born in Manchester, Tenn. and then moved to the Oklahoma Panhandle at age 2 with his family. He went to school in Tyrone and OPSU in Goodwell.
In January 1942, he met the love of his life, Lela, on a blind date. They married in Hooker in September of the same year. Later, he began a 38 year career with Gulf Oil. Lonzo transferred, through Gulf, to Bakersfield in 1969, and lived there with Lela until his death.
He was an active member of Valley Baptist Church, where he served the Lord for many years. He was also a member of the local and national chapters of Horological Society. Lonzo was a master clock and watch repairman and built two grandfather clocks. Sometime things would be brought to him in many pieces in a box. He would rebuild, repair and send them home ticking. His business card slogan was “If your clock is sick, not a tock nor a tick-call The Clock Doc.”
His strong morals, work ethics, and values were passed on to his children. Though a quiet man, he believed his duty as a father and husband was to have a Christian based home.
He is survived by his wife, Lela; his brother, Joe; his daughters, Shirley and Trudy; granddaughters, Dawn, Dorinda, and Amanda; great grandchildren, Shelly, Katelyn, Desiree, Ariana, Brayden, and Declan; plus many other family members and friends.
Lonzo was a gentleman and a “gentle man.” He was kind, honorable, and loved by all who knew him. One nephew put it best, “…he has always been one of my heroes.
He is one of those people who has lived a life that anyone could be proud of.”
Funeral services will be Saturday morning, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Bunch-Roberts Chapel in Guymon with Eddy Scoggins officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Hooker Cemetery.
Services are under the care of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
