Lightning sparks grass fires, very little rain falls

June 29, 2011

Lightning strikes the ground northwest of Guymon on Tuesday night, as seen from the rodeo grounds in Guymon. Severe cloud-to-ground lightning strikes sparked numerous grass fires across Texas County. Guymon Municipal Airport recorded 0.27 of an inch of rain. That leaves the city with still less than two inches of precipitation for the YEAR and was not nearly enough to quell the drought. The fireworks show is still canceled and fireworks are still illegal this year. GDH photo/Shawn Yorks
