The Lady Tigers’ first volleyball match of the season came down to five sets and jittery nerves. Fort Elliot, Texas, went home with the win.
“Jitters,” said head coach Ty Ware. “It was the first time for some of the girls being on varsity”
Guymon came within one point in one set.
“We were down 4-18 in the third set and we came back and won it. For them to be able to do that, that’s huge,” he said.
“It really came down to us serving and receiving serves. That was a huge part of the game for us,” Ware said. “In the sets we lost, we had a hard time with serves.”
There are several first year varsity players on the Guymon squad.
“I think this was just jitters, nerves,” Ware said. “They are still making some mistakes but they know they are.”
He credited Kate Strickland for hitting the ball very well and having a good all around game.
“Ashton Sledge played very well. Jessie Groves had some great blocks. Our setter Megan (Rogers) was pretty nervous but as the game progressed she got better. She stayed with it,” Ware said.
Strickland had 15 kills. Groves had five blocks. Rogers 25 assists. Sledge had 15 good digs.
