Staff report

MOORELAND—The Lady Devils opened regional play Thursday with a win and a loss, but most important is that they will play Mooreland at noon today. A win in that contest would pit the Lady Devils against Binger-Oney for the regional championship and a trip to State.
On Thursday, Texhoma lost to Mooreland 11-0 and beat Beaver 17-3.
“We can play with them (Mooreland). We’ve just got to hit the ball,” said Texhoma head coach Greg Higgins.
“They’ve got good pitching,” he added.
Mooreland pitcher Brooke Tate pitched a no-hitter, struck out five Lady Devils and kept the Texhoma off the bases in most innings. Only Tristen Green reached first base on an error.
Mooreland batters hit two over the fence home runs.
In the Beaver game, Reagan Higgins hit a bases loaded triple and Tabra Elliott had three singles.
Texhoma pitcher Bailey Talbert struck out one batter in the Beaver game.
She and Green have returned to playing after both were injured while playing at Guymon on Nov. 11. Talbert pitched the distance in all four games at Districts last week.
“In the Beaver game we played pretty good defense. We threw strikes and we hit the ball,” Higgins said.
The Lady Devils advanced to the Regionals in Mooreland Thursday after beating out Hooker and Boise City in Districts on their own field one week ago.
Green is not playing in her usual position of catcher.
Higgins moved herto shortstop. The usual shortstop, Tabra Elliott, moved to third base while third baseman Taysi Peterson is catching.
Last year, Texhoma finished the season 8-14, losing to Hooker in Districts.
The Lady Devils entered the 2012 regional tournament 19-9.
Mooreland entered Regionals 24-6 overall and is ranked No. 9 by OK Rankings. Texhoma is not ranked.
