BEAVER, Okla.- Explosive plays keyed the Hooker Bulldogs 48-22 victory over the Beaver Dusters, with six of their seven touchdowns coming on plays longer than 44 yards.
With five touchdown drives lasting only one or two plays and another only three plays, Hooker racked up 524 yards of offense on just 43 plays for a 12.2 yard per play average.
Their seven touchdowns all came in the first 25 offensive plays.
“Offensively, we executed real well; pretty solid game all around,” Bulldogs coach Jacob Kreamer said. “We’re thankful the rain held off. It allowed us to exploit our speed advantage, and that was big for us.”
Beaver hung tight early before turnovers cost them too many possessions.
“We came out firing and really moving the football, and putting points on the board, but ‘the old booger-bear’ jumped up on us again,” Dusters coach Mike McVay said. “We gave up the long plays, turned the ball over, struggled in pass coverage, and didn’t tackle like we need too. That’s been the summation of our whole year. I wish I had the cure for it.”
The game did start out well for the Dusters. Ryan Nash returned the opening kickoff 28 yards to the 48. Six running plays later Nash scored from three yards out. Beaver faked the extra-point kick, and Kaleb McDonald hit Nash on a rollout pass for the 2-point conversion to make the score 8-0 in favor of the Dusters.
Hooker was held to a 3-and-out, and Beaver’s Austin Ingalls returned the punt 34 yards to the Bulldogs 31, setting the Dusters up, potentially for another score.
But that is when it hit. On third and eight Hooker’s Jaydon Valles intercepted the pass and took possession at their own 26.
After a Joe Bean 24-yard run to the 50, Bean hit Chad Kennedy on a short pass and Kennedy outran the Duster defense all the way to the endzone. Bean hit Valles for the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 8-all.
Hooker forced a Duster punt on their next possession, but Beaver was able to pin Hooker back at their 7-yard line.
But Hooker’s speed was once again too much. Kennedy hit Bean in the left flat, and Bean took care of the rest, racing 93 yards for the touchdown, giving the Bulldogs a 14-8 lead with 1:23 left in the first quarter.
But Beaver did not go away. The Dusters went 51 yards on eight plays, and quarterback Dylan Cain snuck in the endzone from four yards out to tie the game again at 14-14 with 9:50 left in the half.
Bean answered immediately. He lined up in the shotgun, took the snap and ran around the right side, 80 yards for a touchdown.
Beaver again moved into Bulldogs territory, and faced a fourth and five at the 25. Hooker’s Jesus Garcia ended the threat, sacking Cain back at the 31.
Hooker went on their lone long scoring drive of the night, taking 8 plays to 69 yards. Taylor McBee ended the drive with a 20-yard TD run that put Hooker up 27-14 with just 1:53 left in the half.
Hooker onside kicked and recovered at the Dusters 49. The Bulldogs scoring threat looked to have diminished when the shotgun snap sailed over the head of Bean, and he had to fall on it back at the 32. But just two plays later, Kennedy dropped back to pass, scrambled right and launched a deep pass. The pass was deflected by a Beaver defender, and then off the shoulder of Hooker’s Luke Arnold, and into the waiting hands of McBee, who walked into the endzone untouched with just 14.3 left in the half, to take a 35-14 lead.
The Bulldogs wasted no time putting away the Dusters early in the second half. McBee scored on a 67-yard run on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter. Beaver fumbled the ensuing kickoff. Four plays later, Joe Bean ran it in from 44-yards out for the Bulldogs final TD with 9:43 still left in the third quarter.
A trio of Bulldogs had an incredible night. Joe Bean had 9 carries for 145 yards and 2 TDs, 1 catch for 93 yards and a TD, and he was 6-10 passing for 109 yards and a TD. Chad Kennedy had three catches for 86 yards and a TD, and was 2-5 passing for 161 yards and 2 TDs. Taylor McBee had six carries for 97 yards and 2 TDs, and added one catch for a 68 yard TD.
Beaver’s Ryan Nash was the Dusters’ workhorse, rushing for 164 yards and 2 TDs on 29 carries. He also was 1 for 1 passing for 22 yards.
Hooker is now 4-3 on the season and 2-2 in district play. They will host Mooreland Thursday. Beaver falls to 0-7 and 0-4 in district, and will travel to Okeene Thursday.

Tyrone wins, Goodwell loses

Staff report
The Bobcats are now 52 and the Wildcats are 1-6 after Tyrone’s 56-12 win over Boise City Friday night.
Tyrone’s offense had a total of 383 yards.
Tyrone has been on a roll the last two weeks with 44-0 wins over Kremlin-Hillsdale last week and a win over Shattuck two weeks ago.
The Bobcats got off to a good start this season, winning their first two games by the 45-point rule in the third quarter each time.
The rule applies in Oklahoma 8-man football.
The 45-point rule also worked against Tyrone twice this season with 45-point wins over the Bobcats for their two losses.

The Balko Bison defeated the Goodwell Eagles 54-6 in Goodwell Friday night.
Now 0-7, the Eagles are struggling with their top players injured and out of action from injuries sustained earlier in the season, leaving the Eagles without starters the team depended on early in the season. Freshman players are seeing much more action than they would otherwise in the absence of the experienced players.
Balko is now 5-1.
