The Tigers will host Bishop McGuin-ness Catholic High School of Oklahoma City Friday night for Guymon’s third home game this season.
Still looking for a first win, the Tigers appeared to be improving when they lost their last home game 28-7 to Northwest Classen two weeks ago. Despite that being a loss, the final tally was a much tighter score than in other losses. Whatever momentum that win seemed to create for the Tigers, Guymon lost the next game 83-6 at Deer Creek last week.
Bishop McGuinness is an undefeated Division 5A team, just as Deer Creek is.
“McGuinness is a very good school and a very good team. They’re better than they were last year,” said Guymon head coach Bryan Ballard.
“They are ranked No. 3 or No. 4 in the state right now,” he said.
“I just want us to come out and play hard and give every thing we have. We are getting better every week. You can’t do anything but get better when you play this caliber of team,” Ballard said.
The Tigers play at Carl Albert next week and El Reno plays in Guymon in two weeks. Western Heights will visits Guymon for the final game on Nov. 2.
The Red Devils remain undefeated and will host the Turpin Cardinals Friday night.
Turpin is 0-6.
Texhoma is likely cruising to another win Friday after a 54-6 romp over Oklahoma Bible Academy last Friday and a 42-6 win over previously undefeated Mooreland two weeks ago.
An attempt to reach Texhoma head coach Aaron Witten was unsuccessful.
The Bulldogs are looking to put another “W” in the record book Friday night to get their season percentage above .500.
Hooker (3-3) plays at 0-6 Beaver Friday.
The Bulldogs lost 71-18 at Fairview last week, an undefeated team.
Okeene handed Hooker a 40-26 loss two weeks ago.
“I’m looking at just playing a clean game and eliminating some mistakes,” said Hooker head coach Jake Kreamer
“It’s an important game for us. We’ve got to win from here on out if we hope to get into the playoffs,” he said.
Now 0-6, the Goodwell Eagles are struggling with their top players injured and out of action from injuries sustained earlier in the season, leaving the Eagles without starters the team depended on early in the season. Freshman players are seeing much more action than they would otherwise in the absence of the experienced players.
The Balko Bison (5-1) play at Goodwell Friday.
An attempt to reach Goodwell head coach Jason Pierson was unsuccessful.
It will be the Cats vs. the Cats in Boise City Friday night when the 4-2 Tyrone Bobcats visit the 1-5 Wildcats.
Tyrone has been on a roll the last two weeks with 44-0 wins over Kremlin-Hillsdale last week and a win over Shattuck two weeks ago.
The Bobcats got off to a good start this season, winning their first two games by the 45-point rule in the third quarter each time.
The rule applies in Oklahoma 8-man football.
The 45-point rule also worked against Tyrone twice this season with 45-point wins over the Bobcats for their two losses.
Tyrone head coach Josh Bell is going into Friday’s game with caution, knowing the Bobcats are facing what he believes to be a good team.
“I watched them (Boise City). They are extremely talented. They have a lot of young kids,” Bell said.
“They have played some good teams and they are battle tested. We can’t go over there and fall asleep,” he said.
