Kjestine Steinbring
The Guymon Daily Herald named Kjestine Steinbring as its new sports editor this week.
“We’re glad to have her here,” said Guymon Daily Herald General Manager, Allison Gipe.
Steinbring comes to Guymon from Anoka, Minn., where she was sports reporter at the Princeton Union-Eagle. She’s a graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth, where she earned a Bachelor’s in English and Journalism. She worked for her college paper, the UMD Statesman, and also worked for the university’s sports information department. Kjestine also interned at FOX Sports North in Minneapolis
“Kjestine has the necessary skills required to be successful in this industry,” said Managing Editor, Shawn Yorks. “We’re sort of throwing her into the fire, right in the middle of basketball season. But she hasn’t been intimidated.
“I know she’ll be a good fit for Guymon.”
Kjestine’s first games as the GDH sports editor were the Guymon-Clayton, N.M. games on Tuesday night.
“I’m excited for warmer weather,” Steinbring said. “I really love football, so to be somewhere where it’s so important is cool.”
Speaking of football, aside from her college team, the UMD Bulldogs, Kjestine is partial to the University of Texas Longhorns — although she had never been to Texas until Thursday, when she crossed the border at Texhoma.
Her favorite pro football teams are the Minnesota Vikings and New England Patriots, and she’s a big fan of the Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals.
Being from Minnesota, Kjestine admits to being a big hockey fan, and cheers for the Minnesota Wild. She’s also proud of the fact that her college alma mater’s hockey team is the defending national champions.
