The Guymon Chamber of Commerce 10th Annual Golf Tournament on July 21 at Sunset Hills Golf Course.
Twenty-one teams from Guymon, Goodwell, Texhoma, Pampa, Spearman and Canadian registered for the event and were competing for vacation packages, cash, electronics and golf equipment prizes. Players pool, 50/50, putting, longest drive and closest to the pin contests gave the participants more chances to win cash prizes.
Guy Langham served as the chairman for the tournament. He put together a well organized event complete with ditty bags and towels exclusively designed for the 10th anniversary of the Guymon Chamber’s Golf Tournament.
Langham also recruited volunteers Grant Watters, Kara Silvey and Griselda Salamanca who kept the tournament moving along smoothly. He also got two youngsters, Claire and Cash Mains, to help with selling 50/50 chances and cold drinks.
Members of the Guymon Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors checked teams in, got carts ready, took photos and assisted with setting up the Elk’s Lodge for lunch. The Guymon Ambassadors were on hand to help serve the tired, hungry and thirsty golfers lunch.
Top teams in three flights were the big winners this year. Flight No. 1 winners are Team Ash; Flight No. 2 winners: Team Bank of the Panhandle; Flight No. 3 winners: Team Coulson. Janice Coulson attempted the putt for $2,500, but came up just shy of sinking the ball in the hole. Dwayne Mauldin won first in the putting competition, Travis Lovins won second and Russell Gaskamp came in third. John DeSpain, Austin Askins and Travis Lovins each received an exclusive tee shirt and gift certificate for their tournament play.
“The Guymon Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament had a great turnout for the 10th anniversary,” Langham said. “This is the first year that I’ve been the chairman of this event and had a great time doing this. The Chamber does so much for the businesses and our community and these types of fundraisers show just how much the community supports the chamber.”
Langham went on to say, “I would like to give a big thank you for the businesses that believe in the mission of the Guymon Chamber of Commerce and support events for the benefit of our community. Also, heartfelt thankyou to those who unselfishly gave their time. They have the volunteering spirit and are truly appreciated.”
