A helping hand and a big heart are only a couple words to describe the new organization called Catholic Charities’ very involved director, Julia Gonzales. A wife, mother of two, grandmother, and involved member of the community are all a few things that involve the make-up of this individual.
As a native of Clayton, N.M., Julia has made her home in Guymon for the past 32 years and has been a part of Catholic Charities since it has been around for 11 months.
If she weren’t out making a positive difference in the community and helping others in her job, she names being a writer of true events as her alternate dream career.
Back in her younger days, Julia wanted to be a teacher, but the changed her mind to just wanting to be just an overall help to others in social services. That goal has been fulfilled with her being on the Catholic Charities Advisory, volunteering at St. Peters Catholic Church during Oktoberfest, and making her full time job helping others at Catholic Charities.
When things get overwhelming, Julia says she likes to read a good book to escape. She also enjoys scrap booking and writing poems.
A few of her favorite things include all 70s tunes, watching Patch Adams, the T.V. show Dallas, or any other show with true events, and her dream car is a Lexus.
As the wife of Clarence Gonzales Sr. and mother to Bridget Gonzales-Leighnor and Clarence Gonzales Jr., Julia has a lot to offer her family and the community of Guymon. Stop by and see this friendly face at Catholic Charities and be sure to join her at the first ever Community Service Fair on Aug. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the First Christian Church Disciple Center.
