DR. KEITH FLANAGAN

Dr. Keith Flanagan, 64, passed away Wednesday morning, April 3, at the Aventura Hospital and Medical Center in Aventura, Florida.
The son of Leon Francis Jackson “Jack” and Rosella Lee (Thrasher) Flanagan, John Keith Flanagan was born April 6, 1948 in Texhoma, Okla.
He was raised in the Texhoma community, graduating from Texhoma High School with the Class of 1966.
Keith and Jan Bullard were united in marriage August 2, 1969 in Texhoma.
Keith attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell and Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, where he was a 1978 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
He then spent the next two years serving as a Captain in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps as group veterinarian for the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), in Ft. Bragg, NC. Following his military service he worked at the Marlow Veterinarian Clinic, Marlow, Okla., for seven years.
Keith first became associated with Christian Veterinary Mission in 1979 and did his first short-term mission trip to Haiti in 1986. He and Jan responded to God’s call to serve the people of Haiti in long-term missions and Keith left for Haiti on April 2, 1987 with Jan and their sons, Sean and Brian, following in June. For the next 26 years, he and Jan poured themselves out in ministry and service to the people of Haiti serving in a variety of roles in ministry and development work. They hosted hundreds of short-term volunteers over the years and served faithfully on the CVM team representing the work of the Lord through veterinary medicine at many professional meetings and student events.
Keith was preceded in death by his father Jack Flanagan.
He is survived by his loving wife Jan, who was his faithful partner in these many years of service. He is also survived by his two sons: Sean Flanagan and wife, Chandra, and their two children, Allison and Aidan of Priceville, Ala.; Brian Flanagan and wife, Robin, and the child they are expecting of Ithaca, NY; his mother, Rosella Flanagan; two brothers, Steve Flanagan and wife, Carol, and Joe Flanagan and wife, Jeanne, of rural Texhoma; and sister, Koleta Ferguson and husband, Jonny, of Kilgore, Texas; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Texhoma. Family committal services will be in the Texhoma Cemetery.
The Flanagan family will greet friends Wednesday evening, between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m., at the Texhoma Community Center. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
