December 15, 2010

COURTESY PHOTO Pictured here is Master MarcAnthony Baca and one of his students at a self defense seminar for women over the age of 70. Baca said, "The senior women at this seminar were very pleased and even at the age of 94 one women said she felt more confident because of the seminar."

One local business man continues to give back to the community.
Master MarcAnthony Baca, Owner of American Karate Studios, LLC has joined in the effort to raise funds toward the Manors's 2010 Tree of Love campaign.
Partnering with Main Street Guymon, Baca volunteered an event to not only help raise the needed funds for the Manor, but to empower the women in our community.
"The generous donations from this event will be placed into the Manor's 2010 Tree of Love campaign," said Rick Roberts, Marketing Consultant / The Manor Nursing Home. "The Tree of Love campaign is a much needed life-line for many residents who have simply outlived their financial resources. It provides those residents with the much needed medical supplies, nursing services, and basic necessities throughout the year."
Coming this weekend, Master Baca will be conducting a Martial Arts Self Defense Training. The purpose of this training is to educate those in attendance how to defend themselves in almost any situation.
Training and awareness on date rape, stalking, sexual assault, protection tips, attack protection, self defense tactics and verbaul judo will be taught by instructors in a safe and controlled environment, learning what really works in these situations.
Statistics show that:
• every two minutes, one rape or sexual assault happens
• every five seconds in the U.S., one violent crime occurs
• every hour, 260 women are sexually and/or physically assaulted
Knowing how to defend yourself is not only a peace of mind, but could save your life.
"In the past 20 years I have been doing self defense seminars for women shelters, church groups, and school teachers across New Mexico and Texas," said Baca," I normally do not charge for this service for the simple fact that every female should have the opportunity to be more aware of their surroundings and how to defend themselves."
Master Baca is qualified as a Master Instructor of Martial Arts with a Five Dan Blackbelt degree in Chung Do Kwon and more than 30 years experience.
Form 1981-2008 Baca has personally competed all over the country in more than 189 Martial Arts, Boxing, Kickboxing and MMA events and was a USA team member in the 1995 World Cup. Baca is the Founder and President of the gang, drug and bullying program for children, "Redemption."
Master Baca manages American Karate Studios for New Mexico, Texas and Oklahoma. He is a licensed and bonded fight promoter for Extreme Cage Fighting Competitions.
"My goal is to help organizations like Guymon Main Street or any organiaztion on helping people in the community. Money raised from this event will go to help Dunaway Manor with their cause," said Baca.
The event will take place Saturday, Dec. 18th at 451 Main St. in Guymon from 9 am to 11 am. The class is only for women and limited to 40 people. Ladies 12 years old and up are welcome. The cost for the event is $20 with all proceeds going to the Dunaway Manor.
"We are honored that MarkAnthony graciously included The Manor/Heritage Community as part of this self-growth event for the women of our community," added Roberts. "Knowledge and empowerment are not only essential survival skills for all people, but allow us freedom from fear."
