Wesley Bryson isn’t very worried after the Lady Tigers lost a doubleheader to Woodward last night.
The Guymon head coach said the second game of the doubleheader was the first 9-run loss he hasn’t been overly concerned about. The Lady Tigers fell, 10-1.
That’s because of team improvement from last season.
“We feel like we’re a long ways from where we had been,” Bryson said.
The 7-4 first game loss was like a scrimmage but a score was kept. It didn’t count against Guymon in the standings. Game 2 was a Class 4A game that does count. Woodward plays in 4A and Guymon is in the final 4A season before the bump to 5A for softball. Other GHS sports have already moved up.
“They’re (Woodward) a really good team,” Bryson said, but added that the Lady Tigers are just as good.
“We’ll make some adjustments in our lineup,” Bryson said, but didn’t elaborate on what those changes might be.
The Lady Tigers are playing without senior standout Ashlyn Wadley who might miss several weeks due to a recent injury.
“Shay (Henry) came in and played first base,” Bryson said. “She’s leading the team in hits.”
Henry, a freshman, also pitches for the Lady Tigers and pitched a few innings last night.
“We’re real happy, though. The girls played real well. We had two errors in both games,” Bryson said.
The Lady Tigers will next play in the El Reno Tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
