“Knowledge will bring you the opportunity to make a difference.”
These are the words of a woman, Dr. Claire M. Fagin, who endured an incredible amount of schooling, and passes her wisdom onto others as an educator. These words are a good way to kick off the new school year as local children pack up their back packs with their brand new school supplies and lace up their new kicks for the first day of school.
Starting Wednesday, school yards and parking lots will be packed full of anxious students started their first days back to Jr. High and Sr. High School. Some will be stepping onto a new campus as the low man on the totem pole, and some will be attending their last year at the top.
Guymon elementary schools start up the following day, Thursday, and will have just as many anxious and exciting little feet stomping through the hallways.
Superintendent Doug Melton said he is looking forward to a new school year and seeing last year’s test results.
“We haven’t gotten any test results back from state testing, so we are still waiting on those,” said Melton, who also said they are now fully staffed and ready to go for the year. “We’ve got all our staff hired except for a Jr. High Librarian.”
As teachers prepare their classrooms, and students prepare for a new year of learning, the citizens need to be aware of the fact that children will be scrambling about in school zones again as the summer days come to an end.
“Everybody’s got to be careful because there are going to be kids out and about,” said Melton. “Also, with the buses, everyone needs to make sure they stop if the stop sign is out.”
So, keep an eye out for children, and send them off with a smile and a “good luck” as they begin the new journey for their school year.
