Clarence LaVerne Gaylord

Clarence LaVerne Gaylord, son of Chauncey Earle and Edna Mae (Mitchell) Gaylord was born Dec. 16, 1927 in Dewey County, east of Seiling, Okla. He departed Tuesday evening, Aug. 7, 2012 at his home in Salina, Kan. at the age of 84.
LaVerne attended Seiling public school and graduated from high school with the Class of 1946. He furthered his education at OSU in Stillwater, Okla. and Panhandle A & M in Goodwell, where he studied Agriculture Economics.
LaVerne was united in marriage to Ida Bachman on April 26, 1948. Following his service in the US Army from 1955 to 1957, LaVerne and Ida made their home in Stratford, Texas where LaVerne worked for Phillips Petroleum in Cactus, Texas. Later he opened Farmers Seed & Supplies in Stratford.  He was also engaged in farming and owned an Allis Chalmers dealership. In 1963 he moved his family to Guymon, where he farmed in the Hough community for over 30 years. 
LaVerne was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Guymon. In 2009, he moved to Salina, Kan. where he attended Christ the King Lutheran Church.  LaVerne loved his country as well as the soil of the earth that he farmed for many years.  In addition to farming, he enjoyed farming and watching football on TV.  After moving to Kansas, he became a fan of KU Basketball.
He is survived by two daughters: Debbie Hyman and husband Morris of Smolan, Kan. and Dixie Beery and husband Jack of Garden City, Kan.; six grandchildren: Shawnta, Justin, Crystal, Michael, Lynzee and Hanna; and eight great grandchildren.  He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida; his parents; four sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning, Aug. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Guymon with Pastor Leroy Pralle, of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Salina officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Stratford Cemetery in Stratford, Texas.  Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.  Friends can sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Ottawa Co. Hospice or to the Mary Martha League of the Trinity Lutheran Church.  Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
