City council discusses potential termination of city manager

Staff Writer

In recent weeks, members of Guymon City Council has discussed matters pertaining to the employment of City Manager Kimberly Meek in closed executive sessions during city council meetings. On Nov. 24, no action was taken after a lengthy executive session on the following agenda item:
• Discussion and possible action, including possible executive session to discuss the employment, hiring, appointment, promotion, demotion, disciplining, or resignation of the City Manager under the Oklahoma Meetings Act, Section 307-B, Paragraph 1.
Several city employees stood before council members to offer statements in support of Meek during the city council meeting on Dec. 10. During that meeting, council members further discussed Meek’s employment with the city in another executive session. An action requires three members to register the same vote during a meeting. With the issue split 2-2, no action to terminate the city manager’s contract was taken by city council.
