Carnival for a Cure is Saturday

October 8, 2012

Carnival games are going to be on the street Saturday east of the corner of 5th and Main. The Guymon High School Student Council’s Second Annual Carnival for a Cure, a fund raiser for Relay for Life, is planned and getting ready to execute.
“We’ll have penny carnival games and would love for others in the community to join us with game booths,” says Student Council Sponsor Jennifer Reynolds. “The more community interaction, the better the carnival is going to be.”
Last year Student Council President Mariela Rico had a dream of having a school event in the community so there would be more community people involved. She and the student council planned the carnival, making it a Relay for Life fund raiser. That first year over $1,000 was raised for the cancer research.
“It was a success last year,” says Reynolds, “and I hope we can build upon it this year.”
The Student Council officers in charge of the event this year are Student Council Vice-President Ely Esquival and Student Council Secretary Averie Hinchey.
Penny carnival games might include a hoop shoot, duck pond, fishing hole, pumpkin bowling, and more. Reyna Ochoa is going to have her delicious cupcakes for refreshments in addition to other food vendors.
The hours are 4 – 6 pm and everyone is invited to come and have fun! If you would like to donate prizes or glasses, vases, and coffee mugs, please bring them to the Main Street Guymon office at 116 NE Fifth Street. For more information on the carnival, contact Jennifer Reynolds at the Guymon High School.
