Lee Cooper, Jr.
Lee Monroe Cooper, Jr., 83, longtime Hardesty resident passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008 at The Lodge, Maranatha Village in Springfield, Missouri. The son of Lee Monroe and Josephine Pearl (Lamkin) Cooper, he was born June 18, 1924 south of Hardesty, Oklahoma. He attended school at Tamarack Country School and Hardesty School. While quite young, he worked for some of the neighbors on their farms as well as helping his dad on their farm. Jr. was united in marriage to Verda Barbara Woodrum on March 27, 1943. He and Verda farmed and ranched south of Hardesty, just one mile from where he was born. Jr. also worked for Texas County, mostly driving a road grader. He really enjoyed running the road grader and helping people whenever he could. He loved the farm and never wanted to leave it, but due to failing health for both he and Verda, they had to move to Springfield, Missouri with their daughter, Barbara and her family in February of 2001. Then because of more health issues, Jr. joined Verda at Maranatha Village, a nursing home in Springfield in May of 2003. Verda preceded him in death on March 26, 2006. In addition to his wife, Verda, he was preceded in death by parents and three sisters. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Jacobs and her husband, Tony of Springfield, Missouri; one son, Ervin Cooper of San Antonio, Texas; four granddaughters: Sarah Jacobs of Springfield, Missouri, Talitha and Lydia Jacobs of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Alyson Cooper of Guymon, Oklahoma. He is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Pafford of Hardesty, Oklahoma and Josephine Small and husband, Doran of Bel Aire, Kansas along with many other family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, May 24th at 2:00 p.m. at the Bunch - Roberts Chapel with Rev. Harold Bollinger officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartville Cemetery, southeast of Hardesty. Services are under the direction of the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, May 23rd between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice and will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942. |
