Absentee ballot deadline coming up for Texhoma bond election

August 23, 2012

Registered voters in Texas County who want to vote by mail absentee ballot in Tuesday’s Texhoma I-61 or Turpin I-128 Special School Election MUST mail their ballots back unless they plan to vote in person. We have to receive them by 7:00 p.m. Tuesday 28th Aug 2012 in order for them to count.

Voting will begin here tomorrow, Friday, 24th Aug 2012, and Monday, 27th Aug 2012 will be the last day to vote EARLY. A two-member, bipartisan Absentee Voting Board will be on duty each day from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to assist absentee voters.

In-person absentee voters fill out an application form when they get to the office. They are not required to give a reason for voting absentee. They are required to swear that they have not voted a regular mail absentee ballot and that they will not vote at their polling places on Election Day.

The Absentee Voting Board verifies a voter’s registration information, checks their ID, and then issues the voter's ballots. The voter marks the ballots in a voting booth and then puts them in the voting device - It is very much like voting at a precinct polling place.

Contact the County Election Board, located at 301 N. Main St. (Courthouse Annex); Guymon, for more information. The telephone number is 580-338-7644 or 580-338-2618.
